CHCDIS001 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strength-based approach
Instructions to Assessor:
All students must have observations/demonstrations completed for this unit of competency. The student must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role.
Completing the Workplace Observation Record
The workplace observation record must be completed in full. Students are required to provide de-identified information on the clients who they have supported and their needs. A total of at least three (3) different clients with disability must be supported throughout the workplace observations but it is likely that more clients will need to be supported to enable the student to demonstrate the full range of skills required for this qualification. Included in the minimum of 3 different clients are people with the following needs/diagnoses:
- 2 people requiring personal care
Depending on the electives being undertaken by the student they may also have to support:
- 3 people with mental health needs (only if undertaking CHCMHS001 – Work with people with mental health issues)
These do not all have to be separate individuals as an individual may have multiple needs however these needs must all be addressed but a minimum of three clients in total must be supported. For clarification on the requirements, contact your Assessor.
In addition, the student must participate in at least one (1) WHS meeting or inspection.
There must also be evidence that the student has performed the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during a period of at least 120 hours of work in at least one aged care, home and community, disability or community service organisation.
If the student is on a vocational placement organised by Simple Solutions these hours must be recorded in the Student Logbook and Reflective Journal.
If the student is employed this evidence can be provided in the form of payslips where the starting date of the payslips are not before the date that the student completed the theory component of this unit. All payslips must be validated with the employer for authenticity.
All students must complete the reflective journal, even if employed.
If a Third Party Report is obtained the assessor must also complete observations as part of relevant simulations to validated the information provided by the Third Party and obtain direct evidence of competence.
